The OIC-COMSTECH signed a memorandum of understanding with the Scientific Research and Education Center, Green Academy, formalizing a partnership to accelerate the transition to a green economy across member states.

On April 24, 2026, at the Regional Ecological Summit in Astana, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary and Prof. Dr. Yessekina Bakhyt Kamalbekovna signed an agreement. It lays the groundwork for broad-based collaboration to bridge scientific research and environmental policymaking, an intersection increasingly seen as critical to addressing the climate crisis.

At its core, the partnership aims to strengthen human capital and institutional capacity in areas rapidly shaping global sustainability agendas: climate change mitigation, environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. Officials described the initiative as both strategic and overdue, particularly for a bloc of countries facing shared vulnerabilities, from water scarcity to agricultural stress.

The collaboration will roll out through a series of targeted programs, including specialized training courses, joint workshops, policy dialogues, and the production of scientific reports to inform decision-making at the national and regional levels. By linking academic expertise with policy frameworks, the initiative aims to move beyond rhetoric toward measurable progress.

“This agreement represents a timely and strategic opportunity,” Dr. Choudhary said at the signing ceremony, emphasizing that innovation-driven solutions and skilled human resources would be decisive in addressing environmental challenges that no single country can solve alone.

Dr. Kamalbekovna echoed that sentiment, noting that ecological issues are inherently transnational and require sustained international cooperation. She expressed confidence that the partnership would foster meaningful knowledge exchange and long-term sustainability throughout the OIC region.

The memorandum reflects a broader shift within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation toward science-led collaboration to address global challenges. As climate pressures intensify, such alliances may prove essential for aligning regional priorities with the demands of a rapidly changing planet.
